Arik was recruited as the guitarist for the Lollapalooza tour after John Frusciante’s departure in 1992, and played with the band up until their last show in 1993. He appears in the 'Breaking The Girl' and 'If You Have To Ask' videos, and appeared in The Simpsons episode "Krusty Gets Cancelled". Marshall was replaced by Jesse Tobias.

Around The World
Second single from the Californication album. With a killer opening and fast guitar riffs, this song was often played as the opener during the ‘Californication Tour’ shows.

Asterisk
Asterisk, star of infinity, call it what you like but its a definitely a sign we all associate with the Chilis. It's found on most of their merchandise and both John and Anthony have it tattooed on their wrists... Here is how the band explains it: "A lot of people think it's an asterisk, it's actually an angel in heaven's asshole, viewed from earth of course". (see the Blood Sugar Sex Magik back cover).

Ataxia
ATAXIA is a band that was born from the collaboration between John Frusciante, Josh Klinghoffer and Joe Lally (of Fugazi). This band released their first album entitled Automatic Writing in August 2004 and prepared material for their second album due early 2005.

B

Blood Sugar Sex Magik
BSSM The fifth Red Hot Chili Peppers album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik (BSSM), was released back in 1991. Arguably their finest record, it has been acclaimed by critics and fans alike. Produced by Rick Rubin. This is the album that really brought RHCP into the mainstream eye. Many people began to buy BSSM copy of this album just to feel a strong combination of rap, fast guitar licks, funky-ass bass and a killer drum sound. The hit single Under The Bridge soon became an everlasting ballad to anyone of that era, while the fast and funky Give It Away became one of the many reasons why you couldn't turn this band aside.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik was also claimed as The Best BASS Album by BASSIST Magazine back in Dec 1991, while Kerrang! Magazine (April 1998) listed it at #52 of 100 album you must hear before you die!

Bob Dylan
Born in 1941. The Red Hot Chili Peppers covered the song Subterranean Homesick Blues for the Uplift Mofo Party Plan album. Bob Dylan is one of the greatest, most admired, and most influential musicians to have lived.

Bob Forest
Thelonious Monster and Bicycle Thief's lead singer, and friend of the band. Fronted a RHCP show in Los Angeles in April, 1988 when Anthony was unable to.

Bob Marley
(1945-1981) Reggae Legend and one of the world's legendary musicians. Described in Give it Away as a 'poet and a prophet'.

Bootsy Collins

One of Flea's favourite musicians. Collins was born in 1951 in Ohio, and with George Clinton in Parliament became one of the biggest influences in the funk music scene.

Borneo

Borneo, or as it is known by today Kalimantan, is an island of Indonesia. Anthony Kiedis and Hanky Panky (the band's tattoo artist) went there once seeking adventure. But the trip was far different from how they planned it. They got lost in the jungle, sometimes hallucinating, and came down with various illnesses.

Brendan O'Brien
Sound Engineer for BSSM, and producer of bands such as Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Korn.

Bukowski
Charles Bukowski (1920-1994) was an American writer. He is one of Anthony's favourite writers and thus got a mention in 'Mellowship Slinky in B Major' on the Blood Sugar Sex Magik album.
...I'm on my porch 'cause I lost my house key
Pick up my book I read Bukowski
Can I get another kiss from you?
Kiss me right here on my tattoo...
By The Way
BTW Red Hot Chili Peppers' eighth and most eagerly awaited album was released in July 2002. While notably less funky than previous releases, the album was anything but a disappointment. In fact it went platinum in several countries within several weeks of its release date. Lyrically the album is of Anthony Kiedis' emotional exploration, while many of the tracks on the record were born from John Frusciante's magnificent musical ideas.

By The Way was also the title track and first single from the album. The video clip, directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, features a crazy taxi driver - who is also a super hardcore fan of the RHCP - kidnapping Anthony Kiedis, while Flea and John come to the rescue.

C
Californication
Californication The seventh album of the RHCP, released back in June 1999. It was also the comeback album for guitarist John Frusciante, since quitting the band in 1992. The Chilis suprised the world again with their multi-platinum release, which has sold over 13 million copies worldwide. A far cry from its predecessor One Hot Minute, the album incorporates a lot of sweet melodies and harmonies provided mainly by John at producer Rick Rubin's insistance.

Californication is also the title track and fourth single off the album. The filmclip features the band in a video-game style Los Angeles.

Chad Smith
Chad SmithThe The greatest and longest serving drummer the Chili Peppers have had. Anthony and Flea were amazed by Chad's skills when the two were auditioning a number of candidates to replace Jack Iron after his departure. He joined in 1988 and has been with the band ever since. He often flies around the world with his drum clinic. Read more about this magnificent drummer here.

Chain Reaction
The first band that Jack Irons and Hillel Slovak played in, with Alain Johannes and Todd Strasman. Later, the band changed their name to Anthym, and recruited Flea on bass.

Chateau Marmont
RHCP recorded most of the vocals for the songs of By The Way in this very hotel. The hotel has had its fair share of celebreties shuch as Bob Dylan, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Jim Morrison, Mick Jagger, Ringo Starr and Led Zeppelin. John Frusciante even lived there for a while.

Chily Willy
And The Red Hot Peppers, a popular British pub-rock band from the '70s. They are the butt of a joke about a band that inspired the name for the band, The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Clara Balzary-Zeviar
ClaraBorn 16 September 1988. Flea's daughter, from his marriage to his ex-wife, Loesha. Flea is so caring about his daughter, and Clara is now everything to Flea. She was part of the group of children seen in the video clip for Aeroplane, and can be seen in the Knock Me Down video and on the Funky Monks

More recently Clara is the drummer of her band The Tints.

Clash, The
Originally from the UK, The Clash are one of the most influential punk bands ever. The Red Hot Chili Peppers liked to jam The Clash's 'London Calling' as an intro to Right On Time during their live shows. The Clash is: Mick Jones (lead guitar, vocals), Joe Strummer (vocals, guitar), Nicky "Tropper" Headon (drums), and Paul Simenon on bass.

Cliff Martinez
Former drummer of the band, Cliff was in and out of the Chili Peppers lineup for a few years back in the early days. His drumming is featured on the Chili's self-titled debut. After playing with "Captain Beefheart" and "The Weirdoes", he traded in his sticks for recording gear and now scores for films such as Traffic.

Coffee Shop
The fourth single from One Hot Minute, released 1995.

D

Tenzin Gyatso, 14th and present Dalai Lama, was born in 6 July 1935, and is believed by Buddhists to be first Dalai Lama reincarnation on earth, to lead the human race to a better life, happiness, and lessen suffering, by teaching the wisdom of Buddha. Anthony during his period of self discovery while recovering from his drug addiction in the 90s, met the Dalai Lama for spiritual guidance in Tibet.

Dave Navarro
Dave NavarroDavid Michael Navarro was born 7th June, 1967 in Santa Monica, California, USA. RHCP's 8th guitarist. The guitarist of the lightswitch band Jane's Addiction, Dave joined the RHCP in September 1993 and with the band began working on the album One Hot Minute. Dave's time in the band was full of drama. His second live show with the band was the infamous Woodstock '94 festival where they dressed up as lightbulbs, and his last was the Fuji Rock Festival in '97 where a crippled Anthony led the band through a short set in the face of an oncoming typhoon.
